VETERANS MEDICAL LEADERSHIP COUNCIL

SPIRAL EFFECT

We recognize that the challenges our Veterans encounter extend far beyond the battlefield. Social determinants such as access to healthcare, employment opportunities, stable housing, and social support systems play pivotal roles in shaping their mental health outcomes. Moreover, the shadow of suicidal ideation looms large over many Veterans, a stark reminder of the urgent need for action and support.

Our programs work upstream to prevent the spiral towards Veteran Suicide.  In the State of Arizona alone, there are over three Veteran Suicides per day **.  By preventing the loss of a job or the loss of a home, VMLC believes we break the spiral that leads to loss of connection and loss of hope.Amid these daunting realities, we find hope and resolve.

Our goal today and every day is not merely to acknowledge these issues but to actively work towards solutions that are not just beneficial but lifesaving, life-sustaining, and life-improving. Together, let us embark on this crucial journey of understanding, support, and action, ensuring that no Veteran is left behind in their struggle for mental well-being. Thank you for joining us in this important endeavor.

Veterans Medical Leadership Council

VMLC

The mission of the VMLC is to provide a forum for community leaders to advocate initiatives that enhance the quality of Veteran’s health care and services in Maricopa County, and to raise funds to primarily assist Arizona Veterans in crises at the Phoenix VA Health Care System, Prescott VA Medical Center, and the Arizona State Veteran Home that fall outside federal and state funding guidelines.

LEGACY

Founded in 1999 with the singular mission of supporting the Veterans of the Greater Phoenix Valley who have a need which cannot be legally addressed by the Veterans Administration, the State of Arizona and other Federal and State Offices, the VMLC works in concert with these organizations to ensure Arizona Veterans needs are not left un-met. Passionately committed to providing a critical financial safety net on an emergency basis for those Veterans and their families needing a hand up, not a hand-out, during their transition back to civilian society and throughout their post-service journey.  This timely assistance ensures the necessities to our veterans.

ACTION

The VMLC supports Veterans of any era who have a verified and bonified need and are supported through the VA’s social workers as well as other charitable entities who have a proven method to validate veteran status.  Needs may include but are not limited to, shelter, emergency home or auto repair, utility bills, as well as treatment for Post Traumatic Stress and Traumatic Brain Injuries.
